America’s Cup warm-up confirmed for Auckland

America’s Cup World Series schedule was confirmed right prior the Christmas last year. Team New Zealand will get the chance to size up their challengers on home waters leading into the 2021 America’s Cup. Called “The Christmas Race”, the event will be the last of the three and take place from 17 to 20 December 2020.

The complete schedule for the three-event America’s Cup World Series has been confirmed by the Defender and the Challenger of Record with teams visiting Italy, England, and New Zealand in 2020.

2020 America’s Cup World Series Schedule:

April 23-26 – Cagliari, Italy

June 4-7 – Portsmouth, England

December 17-20 – Auckland, New Zealand

Challenger of Record Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli has their base in Cagliari, and the area is renowned for good sailing breeze at that time of the year.

The Portsmouth event is expected to be held in June this year, and following that regatta, the AC75’s will be shipped to Auckland.

New Zealand fans can expect to see the first Challengers sailing in August 2020, with base construction starting early in January or February this year.

Following the Auckland event, the competition heats up in January and February 2021 with the Prada Cup Challenger Selection Series to determine which Challenging team will take on the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, in the 36th America’s Cup Match on March 6-21, 2021.
